Amica
Background & History:
Founded in 1907 by Rhode Island businessman A.T. Vigneron, Amica began solely as an auto insurance company with two overriding principles: seek out responsible policyholders, and treat them with respect by providing great customer service.
A sister company, Factory Mutual Liability Insurance Company of America, was also organized and began operating in 1921. The two companies continued working side by side for more than 50 years, until they merged in 1973.
The company grew steadily, as did the need for broader insurance coverage. In 1968, Amica Life Insurance Company was founded and designated a subsidiary of Amica Mutual. Today, that company continues to thrive, offering customers a full range of life insurance services.
During the past 30 years, Amica has created several additional companies to address the needs of its expanding customer base, including:
Amica Lloyd’s of Texas
Amica Property and Casualty Company, Inc.
The Amica General Agency, Inc.
The Amica General Insurance Agency of California, Inc.
