The GMAC Insurance Personal Lines Group has been operating since 1925.

GMAC Insurance Personal Lines was once a subsidiary of GMAC (now Ally). American Capital Partners and insurance holding company AmTrust Financial Services acquired the company in 2010. The new owners were allowed to retain the GMAC name.

GMAC Insurance Personal Lines has grown into one of the top 20 U.S. auto insurance companies. It provides specialty "private label" and direct insurance products marketed to a wide variety of affinity groups.  In addition, GMAC Insurance has a network of more than 10,000 independent agents and brokers.
