After its incorporation in 1995, former Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner James Stone and British insurance entrepreneur Peter Wood began running Direct Response Corporation, the holding company to the Response Insurance Group of companies and using the red telephone on wheels to depict the direct-to-the-consumer auto insurance company’s dedication to prompt service.
Over the next 10 years the company continued to grow and attract investors, such as Morgan Stanley Capital Partners. These backers saw potential and wished to help create a national direct-to-the-consumer auto insurance company from the ground up.
