Discount auto insurance company coming to Mass.

Massachusetts residents may soon have more options than ever when it comes to choosing discount auto insurance.

According to a Boston Globe report, Geico, the nation's third largest auto insurance company, plans to start doing business in Massachusetts. This would give the company a presence in all fifty states. It would also give consumers their latest option in a state that enacted broad-based reforms to its auto insurance system only about a year ago.

Under the former system, the state reportedly had much more control over the setting of policy rates.

The report noted that Geico's addition to the market would make it the eighth company to come to Massachusetts since the rules were changed. Some other companies, including Progressive Insurance, had not maintained a presence in the state under the previous regulatory climate.

The company is one of several that advertise themselves as discount auto insurance carriers that can save consumers money.
