Drivers can take simple steps for lower auto insurance rate
A New Jersey nonprofit insurance organization is offering drivers some tips on how to save on their auto insurance rate.
"Too many people set their auto insurance policies and forget about them. This results in extraneous costs that drivers continue to pay year after year all because they haven't taken the time to review their current polices and revaluate their insurance needs," said Eric Poe of CURE in a statement.
The first tip offered by the group is to shop around because some insurance companies can charge people extra for anything from failing to live in a wealthy enough neighborhood to having a low credit score.
Other tips include reviewing policies to make sure liability coverage isn't too high, dropping physical damage provisions for older cars, and requesting a higher deductible. The organization says that increasing your deductible from $500 to $1,000 could be enough to reduce premiums as much as 30 percent.
Finally, drivers are advised to be on the lookout for the variety of discounts that insurance companies offer, ranging from low-mileage ones to off-street parking discounts. By following these tips, there's a good chance you can save on your auto insurance rate as well.
