Regular maintenance goes along with homeowners insurance
Even if you've got homeowners insurance, there's nothing like some routine maintenance to help prevent potentially damaging and expensive problems.
Heading into the spring and summer months, some especially important issues to watch out for are moisture and bugs, which can often go hand in hand. The Daily American newspaper of Pennsylvania recently spoke with pest control professional Nick Morrison, who advised homeowners that excessive moisture can lead to problems with mold as well as bugs.
"Your home is your biggest investment that you are ever going to make in your life. It is really a small price to pay to protect that investment. Regular homeowners insurance will not protect you against termite or carpenter ant damage," Morrison told the newspaper.
Both mold and bugs have been known to cause extensive and highly costly damage to homes. Preventing such problems can be as easy as running a dehumidifier in rooms that are prone to moisture, as well as ensuring that all drains point away from the house and don't allow water to run back towards it.
