Consider your automobile insurance before speeding
Nebraska drivers are reportedly getting a break when it comes to certain fines on speeding tickets, but this doesn't mean they'll save on automobile insurance in the process.
An Associated Press report notes that the state legislature recently approved a bill to do away with doubled fines that apply to motorists caught speeding through construction zones - provided there are not actually any workers on the scene at the time of the incident.
The report noted that about half of the states have similar laws that provide added penalties for speeding through construction areas, with an eye on protecting worker safety. The doubled fines will still apply to those who speed through these zones when workers are present.
However, drivers themselves can be at great risk if they fail to follow proper safety procedures in work zones. A report in the Asheville Citizen-Times says that in North Carolina, more than 80 percent of work zone fatalities are the motorists themselves, with speeding and driver distraction said to be the leading causes of these accidents.
While the revised law may be good news for some cash-strapped Nebraska motorists, drivers everywhere need to remember that a speeding ticket will often raise the price of their automobile insurance for a number of years.
