The online auto insurance quote is said to be more popular than ever among consumers, largely because of the convenience it offers.
According to a recent report by ecommerce monitoring company comScore, 63 percent of consumers reported that they had gone online to find an auto insurance quote, compared to 26 percent who called or visited a local agent representing a single insurance company.
Another 25 percent of consumers reported that they had visited or called an agent representing multiple insurance companies, while 18 percent said they had used toll-free telephone numbers to obtain their quotes.
"As with many important purchases, the online channel is often the first place consumers go to research auto insurance prices. Whether or not the consumer eventually completes the purchase online, marketers must understand that it is critical to communicate with prospective buyers at this phase of the purchase funnel," said Kevin Levitt of comScore.
The report also notes that the number of consumers using the internet to purchase auto insurance has grown dramatically in recent years. For example, 30 percent of consumers said they had made their purchase online in the last six months, while five years ago, only 4 percent of them chose to do so. With this in mind, consumers who opt for an online auto insurance quote are part of a rapidly growing trend that offers both convenience and satisfaction.
