Good Online Car Insurance No Match for Careful Driving

For many motorists, peace of mind can feel as simple as landing a good online car insurance policy. In reality though, true peace of mind on the road requires constant attention - especially in light of the large numbers of repeat DUI offenders that can be found driving in many states.

A recent Denver Post article revealed that in Colorado alone, about 10,000 people are arrested each year for repeat drunken driving offenses. The newspaper said that in one recent three-year period, about 5,000 people were arrested with at least three prior DUI offenses, while about one in three of all offenders in the state are said to have prior convictions.

The newspaper noted that a statewide task force has been established to look at the problem of repeat offenders, with one member being quoted as saying the problem "is out of control."

The problem is hardly confined to just Colorado. A report on WOWK-TV in West Virginia describes the recent DUI arrest of one man who already has 11 prior convictions for the crime.

Elsewhere, the Ohio Insurance Institute website reports that 59 percent of the state's total DUI convictions are repeat offenders. With statistics like this, it's worth noting that there's much more to peace of mind on the road than landing a good online car insurance policy. Careful driving is a very important part of that mix as well.
