Shopping for Life Insurance Quotes Part of a Good Long-Term Plan

Financial planners are reminding Americans to plan on living a long life when it comes to retirement savings - something that also applies when it comes to shopping for life insurance quotes.

A recent statement from a leading financial company reminds consumers that when Social Security was first introduced, the average American lifespan was 62 years. Now, that number has increased to at least 78 years.

"The goal is to make retirement assets last as long as possible, with the understanding that no one knows how long they'll live," said Robert Fishbein of Prudential Financial’s Tax Department, going on to suggest that Americans should review their retirement plan annually to ensure sufficient investment returns and savings in the long term.

The company goes on to cite statistics showing that a 65-year-old married individual now has a 50 percent chance that they or their spouse will live to age 92. Since many retirees are also spending more of their golden years in good health, it's no longer far-fetched for many to try to be financially prepared to live to be 100.

Still, IRAs and pension plans are only part of the equation when it comes to long-term financial planning. Taking the time to shop around for good life insurance quotes is equally important to a family's security.
