Online Safety Courses can Result in Cheap Car Insurance
Drivers in New York now have the option of taking online defensive driving courses, giving them more access to cheap car insurance in the process.
According to the Wheels blog on the New York Times website, the online courses are part of a five-year pilot program and are open to all drivers.
Some drivers are required to complete the coursework as part of a court-ordered process. However, those who take the classes voluntarily are reportedly eligible for a 10 percent discount on auto insurance and a reduction of up to four points in the accumulated driver's violation points.
"Traditionally, students who were required to take a defensive-driving course in New York would have to give up a Saturday or a few evenings," driving instructor Gary Alexander was quoted as saying in the report, which also noted that participants are required to have 320 minutes of instruction.
Drivers who want to learn more about getting cheap car insurance by taking safety courses should check on their own state's policies.
