Include Auto Insurance Company Info in Your Trip Planning
With summer vacation season getting into full swing, Ohio's top insurance official is offering motorists some tips on being prepared in case they need to deal with their auto insurance company.
For drivers who are planning road trips this summer, Ohio Department of Insurance Director Mary Jo Hudson points out that insurance identification cards should be kept in the car, and that the cards should include phone numbers for one's insurance company.
"Taking a few minutes to review your insurance policy can provide piece of mind," said Hudson.
The insurance director advises people who do end up in an accident to remain calm and assist anyone with injuries. After that, drivers should be sure to get the full names, license plate numbers, insurance information and addresses of those involved in the accident, as well as any witnesses. Drivers are also advised to make note of whatever road conditions exist at the time.
Hudson also advises that in some cases, drivers may see their premiums increase even if the accident was not their fault. However, an auto insurance company usually only does this if there is more than one such accident during a given policy period.
