Bill Could Boost Health Insurance in Sioux Falls and Elsewhere

A prominent U.S. senator is proposing legislation that would expand healthcare services throughout rural America, providing a valuable service to people with health insurance in Sioux Falls and elsewhere.

Senator Jiff Bingaman's legislation would seek to train more healthcare professionals with an eye on securing their commitments to work in underserved communities, many of which are in rural America. Students in one proposed program would receive scholarship funds for each two-year period they agreed to spend serving a rural community.

The bill envisions a permanent workforce commission that would focus on maintaining healthcare access throughout all parts of the country, as well as grants for high schools and middle schools to help create a "pipeline" of future healthcare professionals.

Bingaman warns that action on rural healthcare is needed now because the retiring Baby Boom generation will make improvements to the system more important than ever.

"It is estimated that our country will be short 200,000 physicians and one million nurses by 2020. If we act now we can avert this looming health care crisis," said Bingaman.

For those with health insurance in Sioux Falls and other rural areas, this and other proposals will be carefully watched. For more about saving on health insurance no matter where you live, visit InsureMe.com today.
