The Texas Department of Insurance has announced that liability insurance requirements for state residents will be increasing as of 2011.
According to the department's website, Texas drivers are required to be able to pay for any automobile accidents they cause, either with insurance or out of their own pockets. In some accidents, drivers could find themselves financially obligated to replace another person's car, which is why such importance is placed upon liability insurance. Under the new requirements set to take effect on January 1, 2011, drivers will be required to be insured for up to $30,000 for each injured person for a total of $60,000 per accident, along with $25,000 in property damage coverage per accident.
The state has also recently announced that it will be cracking down on those who choose to drive with insufficient or no insurance with help from its TexasSure verification program. People who trying to save money by cutting corners on auto insurance coverage can find themselves in financial difficulty. This is especially true if they are unrealistic about the amount of liability insurance they carry if they end up in an accident.
