Jim DeMint, a South Carolina Republican, recently introduced the Healthcare Freedom Plan. According to the senator, his plan would reduce the number of uninsured Americans by 22.4 million within five years, while repealing the TARP financial bailout fund to help pay for the plan.
"Under the Health Care Freedom Plan, Americans would be able to keep the care they have now, but if they are uninsured or unhappy with their current plan, they could access a voucher to purchase health insurance anywhere in the country," said DeMint, adding that his plan would create a "true, competitive market for healthcare."
Some of the provisions in the plan include vouchers for families that do not have employer-based coverage, plus an option for those with health savings accounts to pay for policies with those funds. States would also receive block grants to develop new ways to help provide broader coverage.
Congress is currently weighing a variety of new health insurance plans for South Carolina and other states, with votes expected later this year. For more on meeting your family's health insurance needs, visit InsureMe.com today.
