Road Rage Incidents Affect General Auto Insurance Rates

A recent survey finds that many Americans believe there has been an increase in road rage incidents, which is a problem that can have a noticeable impact on general auto insurance rates.

According to Rasmussen Research, 36 percent of Americans believe that road rage is increasing, while 42 percent say that it's staying about the same. Only 8 percent told the polling company that road rage has been decreasing.

The survey found that women are slightly more likely than men to perceive an increase in road rage, while nearly double the number of men said that the problem is actually decreasing. Also, those in the 18-29 age group were more likely to say such incidents are on the rise.

In other auto safety-related findings, Rasmussen reported that 53 percent of Americans believe the legal driving age should be raised to 18, while 50 percent report that drunk driving laws are not tough enough.

An increase in road rage incidents would be of particular concern to drivers because one product of such a trend would be more accidents and injuries, potentially driving up general auto insurance rates in the process.
