Homeowners Insurance Discounts Commonly Available
A recent newspaper column reminds consumers that they have a variety of different ways to save money on their homeowners insurance.
The column in Georgia's Augusta Chronicle newspaper observes that consumers who take steps to protect their homes with things like burglar alarms and smoke detectors will see savings. For example, smoke detectors are often said to result in about a 5 percent reduction in premium costs, while going a step further and investing in a home fire sprinkler system can reduce premiums by up to 20 percent.
Other common ways to get a discount from an insurer are to stay with the same company for a longer period of time and to have other policies, such as automobile and life, with that company as well.
Also, homeowners who are above the age of 55 often find that they are eligible for discounts, and the Chronicle reminds consumers that the only way to know for sure what price breaks they can get is to ask their insurer directly.
Overall, taking advantage of every available discount on homeowners insurance is a much more desirable and less risky alternative to simply scaling back coverage or eliminating it altogether just to save money.
