Economy Pushes More to Shop for Affordable Health Insurance
More Americans than ever are in the market for affordable health insurance policies because of factors like rising unemployment.
The economy has shown some recent potential for recovery, but unemployment has been inching closer to 10 percent nationwide and government statistics show that near-record numbers of workers are receiving unemployment benefits.
A recent report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer offers consumers some tips as they shop for affordable policies.
According to the article, consumers should make a list of their prescription drugs and health conditions that require care, and determine whether they can afford a higher deductible. Another tip is to make sure that a policy cannot be cancelled if somebody becomes very sick.
Customers are also advised to know what their policies will and will not cover, and if recently unemployed, to check for state-funded coverage options and similar programs. Even in the current economy, many people should be able to find an affordable health insurance policy if they shop around.
