Driver Safety Courses a Good Way to Save on Auto Insurance

Consumers who take a driving course may find themselves eligible for discounts on auto insurance, according to a recent report.

The report on CNN.com notes that many insurers provide discounts of up to 15 percent for people who complete a driver's safety course. According to the article, the discounts will remain in effect for an average of three years, at which point drivers will be required to take another course.

The article goes on to say that more than half of the states now offer courses to be used in everything from insurance discounts to traffic tickets.

Meanwhile, a report in the St. Petersburg Times notes that Florida has just enacted legislation that will require drivers who cause three crashes in as many years to take traffic courses that will include behind-the-wheel tests and instruction.

The report said that people who had caused three crashes in three years were also statistically likely to rank among the "worst of the worst" when it came to having other offenses and overall bad safety records.
