Flood Prone Area? Know Your Auto Insurance Coverage Well
Some recent flooding in the Louisville, Kentucky area has local residents brushing up on their auto insurance coverage.
According to a report on news radio station WFPL, the state's department of insurance is advising residents to check their policies before they file claims related to the recent flooding.
"Flood insurance is not necessarily a component on anyones policy. So, the best advice and the first advice is always to read your policy to see whether coverage is there. And it might be something that people might want to consider inquiring about and maybe even purchasing flood insurance in the future," insurance commissioner Sharon Clark told the radio station.
The report also noted that for many drivers, flooding would be covered under comprehensive insurance coverage, but not under their liability coverage - although there are also usually factors like deductibles to consider.
Drivers with older vehicles often choose to forego their comprehensive and collision coverage to save money. However, those living in areas that are prone to floods, storms and other severe weather events may want to take a closer look at whether their auto insurance coverage is sufficient.
