The federal government has announced that 6,000 highway projects nationwide have now been funded by the stimulus bill that was passed earlier this year, helping to promote safer driving and making it easier for drivers to find reasonably priced car insurance quotes.
In an announcement this week, the Transportation Department cited a highway widening project in Phoenix as number 6,000 in the nation under the multibillion dollar legislation. The bill, signed by President Obama early in the spring, aimed to boost the economy and create new jobs by funding road projects that were "shovel ready," or ready to begin construction at once.
According to Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood, the Phoenix highway project "marks a major milestone" that "will improve safety and reduce traffic" in the city, as well as other places where roads have benefited from stimulus funds. Lahood also cited the economic benefits of such projects.
The department also noted that the state of Arizona alone has funded 135 road improvement projects with stimulus funds, using its share of the $27 billion that was set aside by the government for such purposes.
Road upgrades are good news for drivers because along with making them safer, the improvements also give them a better chance at finding lower priced car insurance quotes by making more places less prone to accidents.
