More Americans are likely to be shopping for auto insurance online in the coming weeks in light of new government figures showing that car makers are contributing to an improved manufacturing outlook across the country. According to the Federal Reserve, industrial production was up by 0.5 percent in July. While this is still a small increase, the Fed noted that this is the first such increase since December 2007, when signs of the current recession were first starting to appear.
The Federal Reserve also noted that much of the increase was due to automobile production, which shot from 4.1 million units in June to 5.9 million units in July. Some of this is due to the government's popular Cash for Clunkers program, but other recent indicators suggest that a slowly improving economy is also a factor here.
Separately, a report from the Associated Press notes that U.S. exports have increased for two straight months now, while economies in Europe and Asia are also showing newfound strength. With more cars being sold, a growing number of consumers are also finding themselves shopping for auto insurance online and elsewhere.
