Tennessee residents have more reasons than ever to take the time to shop for auto insurance quotes in light of a new state law.
An article in the Chattanooga Times Free Press focuses on a law that took effect this summer which requires judges to inform the state's department of safety whenever they handle a case involving a defendant who has had their auto insurance revoked.
The law is not without its critics, with one judge telling the newspaper that it "limits what the judges would be able to do in a case like this." The newspaper notes that in nearby Georgia, the process is automatic, with the department of revenue receiving automatic notification when a policy ends.
The newspaper went on to quote the state senator who sponsored the legislation, Tim Burchett, as saying that one constituent was stuck with expensive bills after being struck by an uninsured motorist who was texting.
Taking the time to shop for auto insurance quotes can save more than just money. It can also save drivers from running into fines and other legal problems.
