New Car Insurance One of Several Expenses to Consider

People who want to save money on new car insurance can sometimes forget that in the long run, they may end up paying far more for expenses such as gasoline.

With that in mind, the U.S. government offers consumers an online tool that tells them the most energy-efficient models for various types of vehicles for the 2009 model year.

According to FuelEconomy.gov, the Toyota Prius is the most fuel efficient vehicle overall, with a 48 miles per gallon rating in the city and 45 mpg on the highway.

For large cars, the government website says that the Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accords are the most fuel efficient, both getting 22 miles per gallon in the city and a respective 32 and 31 mpg on the highway. At the midsize level, the Toyota Prius and Nissan Versa led the way.

Other vehicles cited for outstanding fuel efficiency included the Honda Civic Hybrid, ranked as a compact car, the subcompact Toyota Yaris and the minicompact MINI Cooper.

Overall, saving money is more important than ever in the current economy, especially in light of gasoline prices that have largely been inching upward in recent months. Consumers have many ways to save on new car insurance and they can also invest in vehicles that will cost less in fuel.
