Fraud Crackdown Can Bring About Lower Auto Insurance Quotes
California officials are working to hold down auto insurance quotes by tackling an upswing in fraudulent activity, according to a recent announcement.
This week, state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced that auto insurance fraud has continued to rise in recent months. This is largely because of a poor economy that has people more willing to resort to drastic measures for financial gain.
"Department of Insurance investigators have seen an increase in suspected automobile arson and theft fraud cases recently, and our enforcement experts are working hard to crack down on anyone attempting to skirt the law for financial gain," said Poizner.
The trend of increased fraud has been seen nationwide, including states like neighboring Nevada. Such crimes generally take the form of vehicle arson or false theft reports. Some other fraud schemes around the country have involved staged auto accidents and unnecessary medical treatments.
Despite the temptation that some may feel to try to turn a quick profit from insurance fraud, Poizner pointed out that people will often greatly compound their problems, both financial and legal, by trying to do so. With law enforcement and other officials continuing to make strides against these crimes, consumers are likely to benefit in the form of lower auto insurance quotes.
