Avoid Having to Contact Home Insurance Company Because of Burglary

For consumers who don't want to spend time filling out theft reports with the police and their home insurance company, taking some simple cautionary steps can make all the difference in the world.

A recent report from the British company Legal & General warns that online social media websites can be a sort of "shopping" opportunity for burglars. This is because people are often too quick to reveal information online about upcoming vacation plans and whether they are away for the weekend.

Consumers can also put themselves at risk for theft by posting pictures or information about major purchases they recently made. Adding to the risk is the fact that many people can be too quick to add people to their contact lists that they do not actually know very well.

"It is incredibly easy to use social networking sites to target people, and then scope out more information on their actual home using other internet sites like Google Street View, all from the comfort of the sofa," said British television personality Michael Fraser, who is himself apparently a reformed burglar.

People can take additional steps to avoid having to make an unwanted call to their home insurance company by investing in a good security system and keeping windows and doors locked.
