DUI Cases Result in Higher Auto Insurance Quotes

Drivers can find themselves at risk of serious injury and also facing higher auto insurance quotes if they get behind the wheel after drinking.

A recent report in HealthDay News cites a recent government study finding that nearly one in eight binge drinkers admit they take the wheel within two hours of drinking. In many cases, this is more than sufficient to put their blood alcohol levels over the legal limit.

"A lot of studies, including ours, have established a strong connection between binge drinking and impaired driving, which is sort of obvious on some level. What hasn't been looked at is how many people actually do get behind the wheel after a binge drinking episode," the article quoted Dr. Timothy Naimi as saying.

The report also cited government estimates which found that there are about 1.5 billion binge drinking episodes in the United States each year, with half of those surveyed under age 44.

Along with putting themselves and others at serious risk for injury and more, drunk drivers are also likely to deal with substantially higher auto insurance quotes if they are caught.
