Fewer Thefts Mean Lower Auto Insurance Quotes
Auto insurance quotes have fallen somewhat in recent years because of a lower vehicle theft rate. However, car thieves are still making their presence known across the country.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau recently projected that vehicle thefts fell by 13.1 percent in 2008, which would make it the fifth consecutive year of a decline in such crimes. This would also apparently be the lowest such figure in more than two decades, although close to 1 million vehicles were reported stolen last year.
"This is great news for vehicle owners, law enforcement and the insurance industry. It takes years of sustained effort to deliver the kinds of reductions that we are enjoying today," said NICB CEO Joe Wehrle.
To help further reduce the chance of vehicle theft, the NICB advises owners to keep their cars locked and to carry their keys with them. Another tip is to install a security system such as a warning or immobilizing device.
While everyone stands to benefit from a lower theft rate, consumers who invest in a security device may also find themselves eligible for a lower auto insurance quote.
