Home Insurance Companies Gear Up for Tough Wildfire Season

Recent media reports are warning that consumers and home insurance companies may want to be prepared for a difficult wildfire season in light of recent events in California.

A Washington Post report notes that even as firefighters in California have been making progress against the state's massive and devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area, this may be only the beginning of the problem.

That's because fall is typically the time of year for the worst wildfires in California, in part because of the Santa Ana wind patterns that affect the southern part of the state.

The Post added that at least 62 homes have been destroyed in the current wildfire and that up to 12,000 were threatened at its peak.

A recent Los Angeles Times report warned homeowners that the problem is likely to result in higher insurance rates. This situation is reflected in other states that have experienced severe weather events as well, because of the financial impact these incidents can have on home insurance companies.
