Saving on Home Owners Insurance Starts With Maintenance
There are a variety of ways for people to save money on home owners insurance, but the easiest may be to keep up with simple maintenance.
For example, the American Automobile Association website offers tips on how to protect what in many cases will be the largest investment a consumer will ever make. For example, checking the roof and garage for loose and missing shingles can go a long way towards preventing leaks and water damage, among other problems.
The website also advises consumers to be sure that tree branches are not in contact with the roof and to ensure that gutters are clear of any debris, such as leaves.
Other tips include regularly checking walls and ceiling for cracks and bulges, keeping wooden surfaces painted, and properly maintaining a home's plumbing.
These steps can avoid damage to a home and in turn, prevent claims that would have otherwise been preventable. At the same time, people can save even more on home owners insurance by raising their deductibles and installing safety features like smoke and burglar alarms.
