Nationwide Texting Ban Could Benefit Auto Insurance Quotes

Calls for a nationwide ban on texting-while-driving are gaining momentum from industry organizations, consumers and members of Congress - as well as anyone else who may be concerned about the price of auto insurance quotes.

This week, the Alliance of Auto Manufacturers became the latest industry organization to come out in favor of a nationwide texting while driving ban. According to the group's president, Dave McCurdy, the alliance "supports a ban on hand-held texting and calling while driving to accelerate the transition to more advanced, safer ways to manage many common potential distractions."

Earlier in the summer, the main organization representing the wireless communications industry also came out in favor of a nationwide texting while driving ban.

Public opinion polls have also found significant support for the ban, among drivers of all age groups. Other surveys have indicated that even drivers who do text know the practice is unsafe.

With this in mind, legislation is pending in the Senate that would enact the proposed ban. If it passes, there is a chance that any reduction in accident rates could lead to lower auto insurance quotes over time.
