New Generation of Vehicles Could Raise New Issues on Auto Insurance Quotes

A recent media report touches on a brand new issue that could potentially have an effect on certain auto insurance quotes in the coming years.

According to the Washington Post, some engineers are working on ways to add some noise to electric vehicles, because their silent engine operation could raise safety issues. The newspaper says that a variety of different artificial sounds are tested among members of the public and presented to government officials.

The report added that Nissan, which is working on an electric vehicle as well as other environmentally friendly vehicles, recently tested sounds that were described as a "chime," "melody" and a "futuristic whir."

There are still a variety of issues to be resolved as automotive technology becomes more sophisticated, not to mention quiet.

The situation may be somewhat ironic when considering that drivers of hybrids, another environmentally friendly vehicle, are considered to be desirable customers because they file relatively few claims.

Still, the coming years will demonstrate whether electric vehicles catch on widely with the public and whether their sound, or lack thereof, results in any more accidents or higher auto insurance quotes.
