Shopping for the Best Health Insurance Guards Against the Unexpected
Taking some time to shop around for the best health insurance possible can be a vital way to guard against unexpected illnesses that can strike at any time.
One such example is food poisoning, which according to the Centers for Disease Control, affects about 76 million Americans each year in various forms. Of that total, about 5,000 fatalities are the annual average, as well as about 325,000 hospitalizations. Common sources of infection include salmonella and E.coli, among other things.
With that in mind, the Center for Science in the Public Interest recently released a list of the 10 riskiest foods currently regulated by the FDA. Among the things on the list, based on the number of outbreaks of illness reported, were popular items like eggs, leafy greens, tuna, oysters, potatoes, cheese and tomatoes.
In many cases, unsanitary agricultural standards were to blame for many of the reported cases of illness, although other sources like norovirus, salmonella and various contaminants were also cited.
Food safety can be improved with proper cooking and storage methods, although many related illnesses can strike seemingly at random with varying levels of severity. Such realities are just one more reason for maintaining the best health insurance possible.
