Teens Can Have Hard Time Finding Reasonable Car Insurance Quote

The average car insurance quote for teenagers tends to be high because of that age group's tendency to get into accidents and take more risks on the road.

In a recent announcement marking National Teen Driver Safety Week, Jeanne Salvatore of the Insurance Information Institute noted that "immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens."

She noted that parents should set a good example for young drivers by following basic road safety procedures themselves and also be discussing the importance of safe driving and following traffic safety laws with them.

Another tip is that teenagers who drive vehicles like sports cars and SUVs may be more likely to get high auto insurance rates because they are seen as less safe than other models. Another strategy can be for parents to put their teens on their own insurance policies.

In response to high crash and fatality rates for teen drivers, some states have been working with graduated drivers licensing systems. These add driving privileges to teenagers over the course of their first year on the road, generally allowing safer and more responsible driving habits to set in.

By taking some of these tips and strongly emphasizing safety from the outset, parents may find that a car insurance quote for their teen driver isn't as high as they may fear.
