For agents who are working to develop auto insurance leads and make more sales, one important point to raise with potential customers is the risk that other drivers can pose.
For example, every state, with the exception of New Hampshire, now mandates auto insurance coverage for drivers. However, some states have seen a substantial percentage of people skirting this law in an attempt to save money, especially in light of the ongoing recession.
With that in mind, the Insurance Information Institute recently warned that one in seven drivers in the U.S. is thought to currently drive with no insurance, regardless of what penalties their state may impose.
"Most people don't think about the uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage portion of their auto insurance policy until they are the victim of a hit and run accident, or are involved in a crash with a driver who either does not have auto insurance or has very minimal insurance," said Jeanne Salvatore of the III.
With that in mind, agents who want to make the most of their auto insurance leads would do well to emphasize the importance to drivers of securing sufficient protection against underinsured and uninsured motorists.
