Fraud Crackdowns Make Cheap Car Insurance Easier to Come By
Officials in various states are cracking down on fraud rings that drive up rates and make roads more dangerous, which is just one reason people are finding it easy to find cheap car insurance.
A recent announcement from California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner said that a San Diego-based fraud ring had been broken up that allegedly cost insurers more than $200,000 with at least seven staged auto accidents.
"Criminals that engage in staged auto collisions seek monetary gain while risking not only their lives but also the innocent lives of other drivers on the road," said Poizner.
The 11 suspects in the alleged fraud ring are facing more than 83 felony charges and one suspect could face more than a decade in prison.
Other significant auto insurance fraud rings have been broken up in New York City and the Boston area in recent years. The combination of success against fraud and safer road conditions means that it will be easier for drivers to find cheap car insurance.
