Quitting Smoking Still the Best Path to Cheap Health Insurance
When it comes to securing cheap health insurance, many consumers have found that completely quitting smoking is one of the best long-term strategies.
Some smokers will often try to preserve their health and save some money by cutting back the number of cigarettes they have in a given day, or switching to a brand that is called "light" or "low-tar" by manufacturers.
However, a new study reminds consumers that so-called "light" brands are actually just as likely to keep them hooked and to continue undermining their health. The study, which appears in the latest issue of the journal Tobacco Control, found that people who had a history of switching brands were 46 percent less likely to have successfully quit.
One of the reasons people switched brands was said to be the desire for a lighter cigarette that could make it easier to quit.
Studies have long cast doubt on claims that certain cigarettes are safer or less damaging to one's health than others. With that in mind, non-smokers are often likely to find it easier to obtain cheap health insurance.
