Life insurance helps protect families if the unthinkable happens
People often invest in life insurance as a way to help ensure family financial stability in their retirement years and beyond. However, life insurance is also a good investment for people of all ages given the risk of injury and worse that they can face simply by walking down the street.
According to the group Transportation America, some 76,000 pedestrians were killed while crossing or walking on a street in their communities over the past 15 years. The fatality rate for these pedestrians is said to be equivalent to a jumbo jet crash each month.
The organization maintains that some of these fatalities were caused by the lack of pedestrian-friendly design on many of the streets where such incidents occurred. Such features would include shorter crossing distances, sidewalks and bicycle paths.
Communities are also undermined by such features because pedestrian and cyclist-friendly roads are conducive to greater exercise, which encourages greater health and longevity.
According to the report, the four cities most dangerous to pedestrians are all in Florida, including Orlando and Miami, with others in the top ten ranging from Memphis, Tennessee to Atlanta, Georgia.
