Winter a Good Time to Check Up on Home Insurance Coverage
This is an ideal time for people to review their home insurance coverage to be sure they are sufficiently covered for what could be a long winter.
Winter weather tends to result in a higher number of home insurance claims because of factors like snow and ice damage and severe storms. So far, predictions have been mixed on whether this particular winter will be harsher than usual.
However, this week the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released data showing that October had the third coolest temperatures on record for a large majority of the nation's weather regions. The report found that only the Southeastern U.S. had October temperatures that were at or near normal.
The report also finds that many parts of the country have experienced precipitation levels far above average this year. This is another reminder for people to pay attention to their home insurance policies, because increased moisture can produce more leaks and in turn, maintenance problems that need to be repaired before they become very significant problems.
By taking the time now to review what is covered under their home insurance, consumers can head off unwanted headaches later in the winter.
