Medical Insurance Crucial for Families With Children

For families with young children, the importance of finding the right health insurance coverage can be especially worrisome.

One reason is because of the need for young children to get regular medical checks and other procedures, and to also have sufficient coverage for the various health issues that can come up.

For example, a recent Los Angeles Times report cites a recent study which found that food allergies may now affect as many as 4 percent of all American children. The article noted that the past decade has seen a sharp upswing in self-reported food allergies, with a corresponding increase in healthcare visits.

Still, a February New York Times report noted that there has also been a significant increase in misdiagnosed food allergies in recent months.

According to the Children's Hospital Boston website, 90 percent of all food allergies are caused by only six products: milk, eggs, wheat, soy, tree nuts and peanuts. The website adds that 8 percent of children under age 6 have food allergies, and that many will outgrow them over time - although allergies to nuts, shellfish and fish are said to be more difficult to shed.
