Whether or not they have health insurance, millions of Americans have been seeking a dose of H1N1 vaccine, largely due to a heavy focus on the issue by the media.
Still, not everybody is buying into the idea that they need to get vaccinated. In fact, a recent survey by John Zogby finds that 46 percent of adults are currently planning to disregard the federal government's recommendation to get a vaccination.
Among those who do not expect to get a vaccine, 32 percent say they do not need it, while 38 percent question whether the vaccine is safe.
Earlier this year, a Red Cross survey found that many Americans are willing to take basic measures to help stop the spread of H1N1. For example, 66 percent of women and 50 percent of men reported that they were using hand sanitizer more often, while 83 percent of women and 67 percent of men said they had been taking an extra effort to cover sneezes with a tissue.
To avoid the flu, people are advised to refrain from touching their eyes and nose when possible, and to avoid going to work or school if they like they are getting sick.
