Safe driving becomes more important than ever during the winter months, when difficult conditions brought on by snow and ice can result in more danger for everyone.
With that in mind, a New Jersey nonprofit group, Citizens United Reciprocal Exchange, has offered people some tips on ways they can protect themselves this winter while minimizing the chance of having to file a claim with one's auto insurance company.
For example, the group points out that drivers should remove snow from their boots before getting into a car because the snow can melt and end up fogging up the windows, seriously reducing visibility in the process. Running the air conditioner for a few minutes can help clear up this problem.
Also, people are advised to try not to pass snow plows and sanding trucks because road conditions are typically worse in front of these vehicles, which tend to provide their own drivers with limited visibility.
New Jersey is also one of the few states nationwide at this point where a driver can receive a ticket for failing to properly remove snow and ice from their vehicles.
