People often resolve at the start of a year to begin new exercise routines, which over time can help avoid chronic illnesses and help keep future health insurance premiums at bay. However, these efforts can also occasionally lead to setbacks in the form of injuries if they are not correctly undertaken.
With that in mind, Megan Barclay, a physical therapist in New York City, noted in a recent announcement that women can be particularly prone to injuries to the knees and ankles brought on by over-exertion and strenuous exercise.
Barclay also pointed out that a variety of braces and other support devices are on the market, but noted that not all of these products are suited for the different physical characteristics of both men and women.
Exercise is an important way to manage one's weight as well as chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes, and can also be instrumental in keeping other issues like depression under control. However, one of the most common errors that people make when beginning a physical fitness routine is failing to properly stretch their muscles before and after a workout, which can increase the chances of injuries.
Another important step before beginning a routine is to consult with one's doctor about any cardiovascular issues that may require extra attention.
