The new year has inspired many Americans to become more focused on improving their personal financial situation. However, some people may not realize that this can also apply to the decisions they make about their auto insurance policies.
According to one auto insurance website, the new year brings various opportunities for people to lower their premiums. For example, some companies provide a discount for people who get married, based on the idea that this lowers their risk of being in accidents.
Drivers who become senior citizens or pass the age of 25 may also find themselves eligible for discounted premiums, notes the company, while the passage of time also tends to reduce the value of one's vehicle, which in turn can result in lower insurance costs.
Another thing to consider during the new year is how long it has been since one's last traffic ticket or other related violation, since some of these are off one's record in as little as three years.
Even if none of these things apply to a policy holder, other factors, including merely shopping around, may result in lower policy prices. For example, teachers and members of certain professional organizations can get discounts from some companies, as can honor students and those who drive fuel-efficient vehicles.
