Auto insurance premiums may differ depending on an individual's driving record and deductible.
A discount recently proposed in Hawaii will also trim the cost of coverage for some motorists, according to the American Automobile Association. These drivers will see their auto insurance rates drop by 10 percent - or about $120 per policy. The discount was proposed by AAA Hawaii and approved by the state's insurance department.
"The insurance division carefully reviewed the rate filing and we are happy to approve this discount for our drivers," state Insurance Commissioner Jeffrey Schmidt said. "AAA Hawaii has been a good competitor in the auto insurance market, which benefits all of Hawaii's consumers."
AAA Hawaii insurance business manager Liane Sumida pointed to various other ways Hawaiian motorists may be able to cut coverage costs, through insuring multiple vehicles, establishing a strong driving record or purchasing auto insurance for several drivers.
Another way consumers may be able to reduce their auto insurance premium is through increasing their deductible. Doing this raises their out-of-pocket expenses while reducing the types of claims they can file with an insurer.
