MetLife Promotes Worker Wellness Program

06/12/2010

Wellness programs and disease management efforts are some ways employers may maintain a healthy workforce.

They may also consider the new Disability Health and Wellness Connection program offered by MetLife. This initiative is aimed at controlling costs for companies and maximizing employee productivity by reducing the likelihood that an individual will get ill or injured.

New and current MetLife customers with 3,000 or more employees are eligible for the program at no additional cost. When these companies receive a disability claim, it is recommended that they urge workers to consider employee assistance, health and wellness programs. An earlier survey by MetLife showed that 70 percent of participants in wellness programs took part because they desired good health.

"Employees with a disability-related illness or injury or who are living with a chronic health condition are among the highest users of an employer's medical benefits - underscoring the importance of coordinating management of these claims to more effectively control costs and aid employees in their recovery," Paul Taylor, vice president of group disability products for MetLife, said.

In addition to taking advantage of health programs, consumers may protect their income from disability or death by buying life insurance or disability income protection insurance.
