Research Highlights Importance of Diet Choices

Medical researchers have long warned people that the way to hold down life and health insurance costs while ensuring a good quality of life is to follow a proper diet and exercise routine.

This is especially the case for people who have diabetes or are at risk of contracting it, since this condition can be especially dangerous and unpredictable. At the very least, people often pay higher life and health insurance premiums if they have diabetes, regardless of other aspects of their health.

With that in mind, a recent study from Harvard School of Public Health finds that people who eat two or more servings of brown rice per week tend to have a lower risk of diabetes than those who regularly consume white rice. People who replace rice with other grains such as whole wheat and barley tend to have even lower risk factors.

Still, brown rice alone is not the answer for people hoping to avoid diabetes. Researchers noted that some of their finding was based on the likelihood that people who consumer brown rice already tend to make other healthy diet and lifestyle choices.

At the same time, the researchers also pointed out that brown rice is better for diabetics because it slows the rush of glucose into the bloodstream and also tends to have more fiber and vitamins and minerals.
