Motorists Warned About States' Ticketing Habits

7/01/2010

Auto insurance customers have long known that they may end up paying higher premiums if they are ticketed for speeding or other such infractions. However, some motorists also suspect that states vary in the traffic enforcement levels they undertake.

With that in mind, the National Motorists Association recently ranked the states on how likely law enforcement personnel are to issue tickets to motorists for traffic infractions. The organization says it has assisted motorists fighting against unfair tickets for more than two decades.

At the top of this year's list was Florida, followed by Georgia and Nevada in a tie for second place. The rest of the top five on the list were Texas and Alabama, while others noted toward the top of the report included New York, North Carolina and the District of Columbia.

At the bottom of the list, Montana was deemed least likely to issue traffic tickets to motorists, with Wyoming and both North and South Dakota also said to be less ticket-happy.

For motorists, a simple speeding ticket can be much more than just a hit to the wallet. It can also result in higher auto insurance costs over time.
