The coming of the Atlantic hurricane season serves as an annual reminder to homeowners of the importance of carrying the right amount of insurance coverage.
However, an organization that educates the public about insurance issues is reminding property owners not to forget their businesses when investing in an insurance policy.
"Property insurance does more than protect physical assets; it may also provide operating funds during a period when a business owner is trying to get the business back on track after a catastrophic loss like a hurricane," said Loretta Worters of the Insurance Information Institute.
The organization also reminds business owners of the importance of carrying sufficient liability protection to guard against employee or other actions that may result in damages. This may be especially important to businesses where employees drive company vehicles.
Even people with small, home-based businesses may want to double-check their home insurance policy to be sure their coverage needs are being met. This is because even something as seemingly minor as a slip and fall incident can have expensive liability issues for self-employed and home workers.
