Some people think of pilots and firefighters as the ones who need life insurance to protect them from the daily forces they are exposed to at work. However, even things that appear to be simple and mundane can pose a major threat.
More than 4,000 pedestrians were involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident last year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A quarter of the fatalities happened during evening hours.
While there are a number of factors that contribute to a fatal accident, such statistics highlight the importance of carrying life insurance. Even walking down the street after work could result in a serious collision with a motor vehicle due something as simple as reduced visibility from the time of day.
Pedestrians can help protect themselves further by ensuring they are walking on the side of the road and wearing brightly colored clothing. Carrying a flashlight can also help make people more visible to oncoming traffic. Whenever possible, people should walk during daylight hours when dark skies are one less factor that can contribute to an accident.
